Standish Borne Bollene 2009 Magnum
Item No.: --
Winery: The Standish Wine Company
Region(s): Eden Valley
Appellation: /
Variety: Shiraz
Description: This wine is produced by former Torbreck winemaker Dan Standish. Whilst the wines stylistically bare some resemblance to Torbreck's in terms of concentration and power they are not quite as super ripe and display slightly more structure. The Standish wines have been almost exclusively restricted to export markets in the past and only now are we beginning to see them make an appearance on the domestic scene. Fruit was sourced from the Fechner Family vineyard planted on own roots in 1976 in Eden Valley. Clay Loam over weathered bedrock with intermittent bands of mica schist at 336m above sea level.
Tasting Note: Hauntingly fragrant with a 'glacier-like' purity and arsenal of aromatics this boasts the balance, clarity and energy that can only be leached from the finest terroirs. A thick scent of blueberry, creme de cassis, violets and pipe smoke relent to a dark, mineral laden underbelly of slow roasted meats, cold granite, tilled earth and Chinese five spice. Deftly combining restraint, power and poise this hedonistic beauty provides enticing drinking and will continue to unravel its riches for many years to come.
