| Description: | The 2022 Basket Pressed Shiraz comprises a tiny component of Grenache in the blend—only 5%—and matured for 12 months in a combination of French and American puncheons and hogsheads (12% new). Both of these things—the Grenache and the American oak—add a gentle sway of sweetness or plumpness to the palate. The wine leads with dark fruit—cherries, dark chocolate, star anise, coconut shavings—and spice, the oak playing a role aromatically. In the mouth, the fruit stands tall on the middle palate, while it closes with an oak-framed finish. I perceived this on the 2021 as well, however the plump, fresh nature of the 2022 fruit helps it along here. This is good. It will be better after a few years in bottle, I believe. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. |
